Set in the high-stakes world of competitive table tennis, Marty Supreme follows Marty Mauser (Timothée Chalamet), a prodigiously talented young player whose life is shaped by an all-consuming drive to win. As Marty rises through the ranks, his focus on competition begins to overtake everything else, affecting his relationships and narrowing his world. What starts as a story of promise gradually reveals the personal cost of total dedication, as Marty’s sense of purpose becomes inseparable from success itself.

Directed by Josh Safdie, Marty Supreme unfolds with an intense immediacy, drawing the viewer deep into Marty’s inner life. Chalamet delivers a striking, physically committed performance, capturing both the confidence and volatility of a character propelled forward by belief in his own potential. He is joined by Gwyneth Paltrow (Kay Stone), whose controlled and measured presence provides a crucial counterpoint within the film.

Marty Supreme has been nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director (Josh Safdie), and Best Actor (Timothée Chalamet), establishing it as one of the most widely recognized films of the year.

Jun.-Prof. Dr. Judith Rauscher is Assistant Professor (Juniorprofessorin) of American Literature and Culture at the University of Cologne. She holds an M.A. in Comparative Literature from Dartmouth College in the U.S. and an M.A. in English and American Studies as well as a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Bamberg in Germany. In her research, she focuses on literature, popular culture, and the environment, American poetry, gender and queer studies as well as on the representation of violence in speculative fiction and TV.

Linda Liddle (Rachel McAdams) zählt zu den Angestellten, die im Unternehmen (nicht unbedingt freiwillig) unter dem Radar fliegt und deshalb kaum Beachtung findet. Ihr Alltag ändert sich jedoch von einem Moment auf den anderen, als sie gemeinsam mit ihrem Vorgesetzten Bradley Preston (Dylan O'Brien) nach einem Flugzeugabsturz auf einer einsamen Insel strandet. Als einzige Überlebende stehen die beiden nun vor der Herausforderung, sich in dieser unwirtlichen Umgebung nicht nur zurechtzufinden, sondern den Überlebenskampf sicher für sich zu entscheiden. Früh treten die alten beruflichen Spannungen und unausgefochtene Konflikte an die Oberfläche, während die beiden gezwungen sind, zusammenzuarbeiten, um Nahrung, Schutz und einen Weg zur Rettung zu finden. Doch aus dem gemeinsamen Überlebenskampf entwickelt sich ein Spiel aus Kontrolle und Misstrauen, in dem keiner bereit ist, die Oberhand zu verlieren. ​
